The Actor

Her love of acting began in the eighth grade.  It was the first time she’d ever read a script, memorized words for performance- and the first time she tread the boards without dance shoes on.  She slipped into it like an old pair of slippers and knew she was home.  That year she won the prestigious grade 8 Drama Award and from then on there was no turning back.

Into high school Jeny augmented her regular classes with after school rehearsals and play reading.  The draw of performance was so intoxicating- she worked hard to get herself into a post-secondary institution to get a proper education in the art of acting.

Upon graduation of high school, she took a job as an apprentice puppeteer for a children’s puppet theatre company in order to pay for theatre school.  She spent two years with the company, and gained an appreciation of how different theatre was outside of a classroom- she vowed to keep that perspective during her continuing education.

At University she began her formal training.   Knowing that there was so much more to acting than work in a classroom, she auditioned for every outside show she could fit into her schedule, was elected to the student alternative theatre council as representative for the first year theatre students, and continued to read-read-read more plays.  She was focused, busy, and very successful during her years there.

Finally- out of University, and holding a BFA with distinction, she continued her education by enrolling in film acting workshops.  Transitioning from stage to film was the most natural feeling for her- and the trend in film and television moving towards naturalistic acting suited her greatly.  Her greatest strength is in comedic and character roles- and the older she gets, it seems the more interesting these roles become.

Her resume is filled with character and comedic roles- and she has enjoyed greatly working with so many talented directors and producers on productions both large and small.   She looks forward to experiencing what future roles she will come upon- and continuing to work with every talented person it takes to make a successful production- Vancouver hosts a plethora of talent in film making, and she is proud to be a part of this strong independent film community.
